Marwad: Land of Valor and Heritage

Marwad (or Marwar) is a historic and culturally rich region located in the western part of the Indian state of Rajasthan. The name “Marwad” is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Maruwat’, meaning the region of deserts.

Marwad primarily lies in the Thar Desert, with arid and semi-arid landscapes. It includes modern districts such as:

    • Jodhpur (the capital of the former Marwar princely state)
    • Pali
    • Nagaur
    • Barmer
    • Jalore
    • Sirohi
    • Jaisalmer (historically sometimes included)

The climate is hot and dry for most of the year, with scarce rainfall and extreme temperature variations between day and night.
